Plan Your Visit

When to Visit

Spring · April – May

Early season. Steelhead fishing on the Kakweiken River through Sailcone. Bears emerging from hibernation. Quieter waters, fewer visitors.

Summer · June – August

Peak wildlife season. Humpback whales, orca pods in Johnstone Strait. Bears foraging along coastal shores. Long days and spectacular light.

Autumn · September – October

Salmon season — the main event. Grizzlies congregate on the Kakweiken River as chum, pink, and coho return to spawn. The most concentrated bear viewing of the year.
