Where the Grizzlies Return

A partnership between the Kwikwasutinuxw Haxwa'mis First Nation and three wildlife tourism operators, stewarding grizzly bear viewing on the Kakweiken River since time immemorial.

The Kakweiken River

A Sacred Corridor

The Kakweiken River flows through Thompson Sound on British Columbia's central coast — a remote inlet accessible only by boat or floatplane. Each autumn, salmon surge upriver, and the grizzly bears follow. This cycle has sustained life here since time immemorial.

The Kwikwasutinuxw Haxwa'mis First Nation has stewarded this territory for generations. Today, through a partnership with three wildlife tourism operators, that stewardship extends to how the world experiences this place — with respect, with care, and with the land's wellbeing at the centre of every decision.

Stewardship

Conservation is not an add-on — it is the foundation. Every protocol, every decision, every season is guided by the principle that the bears and the river come first.
